Hapkido, like any martial art, must be practiced seriously in order for students to attain understanding.  However, because of the way Hapkido is practiced (students take turns throwing each other), communication and trust between classmates is necessary, both for safety and feedback. 

Close friendships are forged in this atmosphere that can last for years - numerous Hapkido alumni spread across the world still keep in touch with each other. And there are many scheduled and impromptu social events each semester that students are encouraged to attend.
